HOW TO TRAVEL FAR FOR CHEAP

Today, I'd like you, dear (s) readers, a technique that will allow you to travel far for cheap, a technique I use for a while now ...!

But first, let me tell you how I discovered this trick, which in the end is very logical ..

Note: (cover photo of the item my friend Bjorn who is going through the Canadian minivan Feel free to contact him via his Facebook page if you want to join and make a stretch of road with him!)

When I asked how I was going to be able to go to Berlin (where I currently live as you know) in Ulcinj, Montenegro, the first city in the Balkans that I intended to visit on my next visit to this region, I started by looking at the price of airline tickets.
I thought that taking a plane to get there was the least complicated solution no doubt, and given the distance, admittedly high, but still reasonable, separating the two cities, the trip could not be so expensive that it, though?

It turned out that if: airfare between Berlin and Ulcinj was extremely expensive.

The price of single tickets that I found was around 350 euros (I did not need a return ticket, as I intended to explore the Balkans and then visit Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia and Bulgaria).

And not only the tickets that were offered were costing me 350 euros or more, but that trip also included a couple of stops and lasted between ten and twenty-three hours.
It was time to think of a plan B.

PLAN B - FIND MORE AIRPORTS

Having looked at the map of the Balkans, I've realized that I could land in several other airports in the Montenegrin coast and not too far from my goal.
So I inquired about the price of flights from Berlin to Tivat (Montenegro) between Berlin and Mostar (Bosnia) and between Berlin and Dubrovnik (Croatia).
Without much success. The go to Mostar is the most affordable ticket cost 300 euros and included a stopover eleven in Vienna, Austria.
Be patient ... You will soon understand where I am coming from.

PLAN C - ROUND TRIP TICKET

Knowing that in some cases, a return ticket may be cheaper than a single, I inquired about the price of round-trip tickets for journeys mentioned above, but failed to find anything that is worth the money.
(you can find more tips in relation to airline tickets in this article: 7 tips for finding a cheap air ticket not

PLAN - A JOURNEY BY BUS AND TRAIN

I thought that it might be time to give up hope of traveling to Montenegro by plane and I started looking at the possibilities offered by bus and train. I found two that seemed somewhat reasonable.

FIRST SOLUTION WAS TO TAKE A TRAIN ...

... Between Berlin and Vienna (Austria) and then a bus or an overnight train that would take me in thirteen hours to the capital of Montenegro. That would be my total income to 93 euros and lasted thirty-three hours.
However, I was shocked to see that the train between Berlin and Vienna had stopped for a while because of work.

SECOND OPTION WHICH OFFERED TO ME WAS TO TAKE THE BUS ...

Berlin ... and spend the Hungarian border to the city of Budapest.
Once in Budapest, I would have had to take the bus in the afternoon to Belgrade (Serbia), which lasted about five hours and allowed me to take a minibus traveling from Belgrade to Podgorica (Montenegro), in about eighteen hours. The trip would have cost about 93 euros in total and lasted about 30 hours, provided you do not wait too long between each trip.

This second option seemed quite possible, however, my enthusiasm faded as soon as I learned that the waiting time between each ride was in fact quite high because no harmonization of schedules of different cars n 'had been undertaken. The trip as a whole rather might last 48 hours!

After all this research, I had no idea what I should do so I have suspended all activity for about two days so as not to upset me and destroy my computer with a mawashi-geri.
But once calmed and after spending two days without doing any research, I suddenly became aware that I had less than a week to find a solution.

PLAN E - GETTING BACK TO CHANCE!

BudapestPris trip to a sudden impulse, I decided to find out the last time the price of airline tickets, hoping that any airline would offer tickets at ridiculously low prices for the trip that I wanted to undertake (journey, date and times to match).
Instead of typing "Berlin" in the box corresponding to the departure airport, I was wrong and I accidentally wrote "Belgrade". I did not realize my mistake until the results of my research began to appear.
Seeing those results, I've realized that this careless mistake was the best mistake I had committed long ago.

I had before me a proposal for a flight between Belgrade and Podgorica (Montenegro), Montenegro Airlines, for an amount of 45 euros instead of thirteen hours because I could take a plane trip to forty minutes, and this for 30 euros more than the ticket price for. Interesting!

After a few more minutes of research, I learned that a private bus company had set up a shuttle service between Budapest (Hungary) and Belgrade (Serbia), who had you up and deposited at the place you wanted to know in each of these cities.

Inn BelgradeJ'ai eventually found a night train between Berlin and Budapest in Budapest arrive in time so I can take the shuttle bus to Belgrade. Pitch perfect!
The only problem with this plan was the fact that I would arrive around midnight in Belgrade on March 5 and my plane would not take off before 6 in the morning. But if spend almost a day and a night in Belgrade is the worst problem that presents itself, I'm game!

My path would therefore take the following form:

Night train between Berlin and Budapest (Hungary) - 9:00, 33 euros
Bus from Budapest to Belgrade (Serbia) - half past three, 19 euros
Overnight in Belgrade - 9 euros for the room in a hostel
Morning flight between Belgrade and Podgorica (Montenegro) - 40 minutes, 45 euros
Bus ride an hour and a half from Podgorica to Ulcinj - half past one, 4 euros
And although the trip lasted 35 hours, I would have the opportunity to sleep in a sleeper night train and spend almost a full day and a night in a hostel in Belgrade, before taking a short flight and cheap for Montenegro.
My journey eventually cost me about 110 euros, a sum well below the 350 euros I would have had to pay me if I had taken a flight of fifteen hours, and solution just 15 euros more expensive than the bus trip, this that would have taken me much longer.
Deal!

ALL ABOUT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Before going to the adventurer across the world, you will need to prepare your travel documents. No one escapes, even if the paperwork is your pet peeve, they are required to move around the world.

Between passports, visas, permits, it's a little obstacle course when you start. I'll give you the gist of documents have to travel alone.
First and foremost, be aware that some countries are more demanding than others paperwork level, so you have to learn about the country or countries where you know the travel you must provide documentation at the border and within the country.

The travel documents:

1 The passport:

The passport is mandatory to enter certain countries. Your ID card is not always enough, so be sure to make one. It is the largest traveler paper. With that, you are serene for 10 years, so you can move around with. It costs € 86 for an adult, € 42 for a teenager between 15 and 17 years, 17 € for 0-14 years. The validity of the passport for a child is 5 years. It is long enough to get about a month after where you live. He wonders at your town hall or your home prefecture. It takes you with two passport, two proofs of residence and your national identity card photographs. For renewal, it is similar, but with your old passport.
Check out the validity of your passport, some countries require it to be still valid 6 months after your return.

2 Visas:

travel documents visa documentCertains countries ask you to pay a visa to enter their territory. This is a stamp or a ticket that are stuck on a page of your passport exactly. This is proof that you have permission to enter the territory. It is usually provided three months (depending on the country) and the prices are different depending on where you go. He wondered France in the consulate or embassy of the country you plan to visit you, or on site at the airport. Prices are also different depending on where you will take, and depending on whether you pay in euros or dollars. There may be more reassuring to do before because some border posts or small airports can not issue a visa.
It may be that you are asked in addition, a certificate of reservation or accommodation of your host. This is particularly true of Belarus, Gabon, Russia and many more ... Remember to apply for certification to the hotel or the person you are staying before leaving the country if required .

Just go to your prefecture with your license, passport, or CNI, 2 passport photos and proof of address. There is a form to fill out at the same time and you will get your license within 10 days and will be valid for 3 years.
Remember that you must have both licenses when you travel. The international license is worth nothing without your national license. With this, you can drive a nice Lada in Ukraine for example.

4 Your credit card and insurance:

bancaireAvant card travel documents to go, look good if your credit card is used abroad, then check the maximum amount you can withdraw with for weeks. I'm telling you from experience ... It's stupid to be able to use the card because we have reached the limit, especially when you're abroad in a godforsaken village.
At the same time, learn about insurance of your card. They sometimes take the liability abroad can pay for canceled flights, delayed or missed, you home in an emergency, to cover certain costs, and many other services. Read the terms, compare the fees you pay abroad, as well as insurance services connected with.
For my part, I travel with the map "Visa Premier".
There are other much better suited to travelers insurance. Maybe a little more expensive, but if you go often, or you plan to do a world tour, then it might be a good compromise. These are travel insurance.

5 The International Certificate of Vaccination:

travel documents vaccinCertains countries require this certificate to enter their territory. These countries require vaccination against yellow fever. This is the only vaccine to be mandatory at this time. So, be sure to ask about the countries you pass through, to see if the vaccine is required. It is your doctor who will issue it. It is valid for 10 years, remember this certificate you!
At the same time, you can do the others that are recommended, especially for hepatitis, rabies, encephalitis and do a check-up of mandatory and recommended those in France. Your doctor will tell you exactly what it takes as vaccines for traveling in any country. Take this opportunity to make a healthy balance sheet, just to see if you have the form, so I can leave. For even more facilities, you can save your documents in your email or other storage space on box canvas. The "cloud" as they say! You will have access to them wherever there will an Internet connection. Also very handy if you lose your travel documents.

Various papers and 8 characters reminder:

Especially those emergencies (112 in Europe), your insurance, your bank, telephone company with the IMEI number of your phone (☆ # 06 # to know), your relatives, your doctor and the Consulate of France in the country visited.
Take with you some personal papers, such as your student card, unemployed, disabled, senior, diving ... You may be entitled to discounts for certain activities or VIP access. Consider making a copy of your prescription for your contact lenses or glasses, medications you keep in your travel first aid kit.
Please make your airfare or train before leaving your concert or festival passes ... It would be a shame to forget the papers on your desk.
With these, two passport photos, a plastic bag to store all this and you're operational level paperwork.

You now know much more about the travel documents. Once that is done, you are quiet for a while. The papers are very important and I advise you to always carry them with you, in a ventral pouch hidden under your clothes. Losing its identity brings great difficulties to continue his journey, or just go home. If you ever lose your papers, inquire directly consulate France who will explain the steps to follow.
Do not panic, as I often say, there is always a solution ...
I hope this article will help you to plan your next trip.

HOW TO HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION TRAVEL

Here are some solutions that will help you have an internet connection when traveling.

PUBLIC COMPUTERS

The simplest and most common solution is to use public computers in Internet cafes, hostels and other public places.
The problem is that the material is often very bad and very slow internet connection.
In addition, working in the computer world, I am very sensitive to internet security. I know it is easy for an attacker to be able to retrieve computer data (identifiers mails, Facebook) that a user would have entered earlier.
We must also not forget to dislodge different accounts reflex that we forget quite often. In fact, it happened to me several times to try to connect to gmail or facebook from a public computer and find me in the account of the person before me because it had forgotten to remove.

Another drawback, apart from the exorbitant cost in some countries, is having to remember all your passwords or, failing that, to have to write them down somewhere.

In short, this solution is not bad for troubleshooting or if your internet usage is moderate.

THE WIFI INTERNET TRAVEL

Internet travel free wifiC'est point that impresses me most about travel; today the wifi is everywhere in the world! Even in India, the country where I am now, I can find wifi easily enough to post a photo each day on my facebook page.
The place is more touristy, more likely you are to find wifi. Many cafes in Asia are even advertised "FREE WIFI HERE" (free wifi here).
Most of the time these wireless connections are free. You're bound to find in MacDonals and Starbucks (even if the connection is relatively slow).
You will also find in restaurants, airports, libraries, universities, museums or even in the Apple Store.

Sometimes the proposed wifi can pay and you will pay per quarter of an hour or by choosing a daily rate, weekly or monthly.

Anyway, if you must use the internet every day (or so) between 30 minutes and an hour, this solution turns out to be the best.
It is this solution that I personally use to publish articles that I write offline, and answer a few emails.

THE USB MODEM AND WIFI

Recently I received an email from Doron, a reader of the blog The backpack that travels around the world.
In this email he tells me about his job as a freelance translator and told me about the importance of internet travel to keep in touch with its customers.
To have internet everywhere, Doron uses a USB modem unlocked (désimlockée). His first reflex when he arrives in a new country, is to buy a SIM card that fits into the USB modem for internet.

After a few emails exchanged we concluded that the solution it uses is the most economical for this type of use.

So if you're away from the WIFI USB modem is THE ultimate solution to have an internet connection and travel around the world! You will only buy a SIM card in each country visited and have network coverage where you are to have internet.

Some precautions, however: most phones companies offer prepaid plans, however internet is paid daily or data limit. We must therefore be wary of the term of the loan and the method of billing data. Beware of vendors who set a limit of data, time, or sometimes both. There are even some who credit for every several minutes. Carefully choose your package and check if it is possible to disconnect and reconnect without losing credit.

TIPS FOR BUYING THE GOOD MODEM USB / WIFI

Most importantly, be careful to the modem you purchase, as all USB drives will not allow you to use a foreign SIM card.
Indeed they must be unlocked or unlockable must be.

Huawei e586Personnellement my choice fell on the Huawei E586 that can be unlocked.
To connect to the internet, I just bought a smart card with a prepaid data in the country where I am, and I connect to the modem via USB with my laptop.
The fact that the Huawei E586 has the wifi allows me to connect to the device using my smartphone and thus use the internet on my phone!

You can buy the Huawei E586 here for 99 euros, it will then get it unlocked here (it will cost you $ 8)
Or you can buy an unlocked Huawei E586 directly here for 123 euros.

You can find cheaper USB key, but I'm not sure of the quality and if they are unlockable. In addition, the Huawei brand and one that is used by almost all operators in France because it is simply the most reliable.

Well, now you have some solutions in order to connect to the internet while traveling. You have to find the solution that best matches your usage, the nature of your trip and the destination.
Personally, I notice that the wifi is relatively available. I get connected at least once every other day (if not every day). But I confess that I connect with the modem and skype to make a conversation with my friends or my family when I'm at the beach, it's much more enjoyable!
That's why I use the free wifi, when available, and the modem when I'm in a remote location.

No need to spend a lot of money to become a volunteer on a site as there are many local organizations in all who are happy to have you. There are two good websites that exist for this: GrassrootsVolunteering.org and IndependentVolunteer.org.

You've discovered local products that could appeal to other than you? You make yourself the items you want to sell? You can create your website or set up a shop on eBay or other online auction site and start selling your products. The success of your sales will obviously depend on many parameters but again, if you're willing to take online courses to learn how to sell your products to the right people, you can continue to do some traveling with your sales (even if they are few).
In India I met a French who bought posters Bollywood movies and sold them one euro in France more than 25 euros!

THE DAY-TRADING

(the practice of buying and selling financial products during a trading session with the hope that throughout the day the price will continue to rise or shrink)
This is probably not within the reach of everyone, but some people make their living and traveling through their daily income trader. One person in particular is Marcello Site WanderingTrader.com.

MAKING WEBSITES

You know how a website? Build your business and look for clients via internet your family and friends around the world. You are staying in a hotel in Turkey which has a rotten website? Submit them to completely redesign their site for 50 100 or 200 euros.
When I was in Ukraine, the mere fact of showing my blog The backpack has allowed me to have dozens of offers from hotels, restaurants, tourist activities that were willing to pay me up to 500 euros to their internet site. This is something that can be done from anywhere.

SALE OF HOUSING IN TIME-SHARING

If you are going shopping kind in Greece, Thailand, Mexico, the Caribbean or any other place with resorts and you will find a job in selling timeshares. These resorts need people who can communicate with tourists from all countries. So they prefer to sell American to American, Italian for sale to Italian, etc. There is a lot of money to be made in this environment.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photo voyageJe'm lousy photography but for those who know how to use their camera, you can try to sell your travel photos.

You can create your own "boutique" on sites like SmugMug.com and you can try to sell them to various magazines and travel companies offer image banks like istockphoto.

WRITING

If you write well, there are many ways to write about your travel experiences and be published in magazines or on websites. It's not easy but if you can publish a few articles and let you know, your articles will quickly become sought after and in high demand. This is what Chris Blogduvoyage site.

WORKING FOR A COMPANY ABROAD

Maybe you want to travel while pursuing a career and earning a good living. In this case, nothing prevents you from applying for good jobs abroad. China has more and more jobs to the attention of foreigners, Singapore and New Zealand are also very popular destinations and several Middle Eastern countries receive thousands of expatriates who live and work for companies on site.

WORK ON A CRUISE SHIP

I often met travelers who have worked in cruise ships. It's a great way to earn money while exploring the world, to enrich a solid professional experience and connect with hundreds of people (both in the crew that passengers) worldwide. So a lot of advantages.

WORKING ON BOARD A YACHT

Sometimes it is paid, sometimes not. But if you look at a site like DesperateSailors.com you will find hard to refuse a job aboard a yacht or a sailing boat, especially if it is to spend several months in the Caribbean or Mediterranean, or even cross the Pacific Ocean.

WORKING IN TOURISM

This does not guarantee you to be on the road constantly, but work in tourism at home can be a good plan for some. A stable income, many exchanges and rich industrial relations and if you move into a good position you will be required to travel for the purpose of your work.

THE STREET ARTS

Do you have any talent? Maybe you do not have a special talent but you're willing to make fun of people, especially if they throw their money in your hat. Many many travelers play guitar, juggle, dance, sing around the world. It's not always legal, so be sure to follow the rules.

BE CREATIVE!

The best example I've found is a young woman in Thailand who came up in 6 months its working model. She was going to resort to resort, contacted tourist offices (often offered tours diving) and proposed a deal. In exchange for their return customers, she would pocket the money. Every day she was on the side of hostels and trendy cafes to promote activities for which she worked. It really came out very well. So think a little, get ideas and do not be afraid to be original and creative!

So that's my list. I really hope this article has made you realize it was possible to travel while earning money. It's not as complicated as you think. If it was impossible to do, we would not encounter so many foreigners around the world working while exploring the planet.http://travelwatourism.blogspot.com/2014/08/40-ways-to-work-and-travel-around-world.htmlWAYS TO WORK AND TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD

AVOIDING BANK CHARGES IN TRIP?

Bank fees are commissions that takes your bank and the bank in which you withdraw your money abroad. These charges may vary from one to three. They are generally 3 to 12 euros plus a variable fee as a percentage of your withdrawal that varies across countries and banks.

To sum up in one example, when you take 50 euros, the bank will take into account your: 50 euros + 4 euros + 3% for a total of 54.5 euros.

You'll understand if you do not take care, banking fees can quickly add up and bleed and the budget traveler.

Here are some tips that helped me to avoid bank charges and therefore travel longer.

FOR TRAVEL IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

If your bank is in France, know that all withdrawals and purchases made in the countries of the Euro zone are free or incur the same costs as in France.
PACKAGES AND OPTIONS INTERNATIONAL BANKING

When going on a trip or longer, the first instinct is to contact your bank advisor. There are indeed packages that simply will eliminate bank fees.
At the LCL for example, for 3 euros per month you can use your credit card abroad unlimited without having no banking fees. Beautiful is not it?
For more information, the offer can be seen here, it is normally granted only to students but I was able to access it without problem, so do not hesitate to negotiate with your banker.

Some French banks also have agreements with banks in other countries that will help reduce the cost of removal. I suggest you educate yourself about the website of your bank to find out which banks are partners of yours.

FREE OPTION "STUDY ABROAD"

Thank you to the blog book-Hyacinthe Hyacinthe.fr for this information:
For customers of CIC Group, the FREE option "Study Abroad" should be considered.
If, as the name suggests, it is an option usually reserved for students, I could, asking nicely to my banker, benefit when I went to Canada for a PVT.
For a year, here's what you get:

Withdrawals in ATMs in the euro zone: all withdrawals are free
Withdrawals in ATMs outside the eurozone: 4 free withdrawals per month (instead of 4.45 € for a withdrawal of € 50 and € 5.90 for a withdrawal of € 100).
All your credit card payments are free (instead of 1.45 € for a payment of € 50 and € 2.90 for a payment of 100 €).
1 free month by international money transfers is 12 per year.
More information on CIC's website here

SUBSCRIBE TO BANK

Some banks, such as HSBC, have an extensive global network. It would be interesting to take out one of these banks for a long journey as this will completely avoid bank charges when you withdraw at the counter of the same banks.

THE PREPAID CREDIT CARDS

Prepaid cards have been around for a few years, I personally have never used it so I could not recommend a particular site, but I have met many travelers who had a prepaid credit card relief.
There are several advantages:

Rechargeable via the Internet; You or a loved one, can charge the credit card if you are running out of money from anywhere
No bank account required; You can easily and quickly take out just before a trip, use receipt
No document required to € 1,000
No management fees; these cards can be used anywhere in the world and no commission is charged when making a purchase
These cards are a great option if you are traveling, whether in standby board, or to manage your budget and avoid bank charges.

LIMIT THE NUMBER OF REMOVAL

Another reflex to have a trip, limit the number of withdrawals. As I said at the beginning of the article, each withdrawal incurs commissions and expenses. The most effective solution going forward is to make a large withdrawal that will allow you to take at least two weeks or more in the country where you are.

WITHDRAWALS LIMITED IN SOME COUNTRIES!

In some countries withdrawals are limited. In Indonesia, for example, many retailers deliver only 1.25 million rupees (about 100 euros) for each withdrawal. Nothing prevents you to put your credit card into the dispenser and make a second or third out, but each withdrawal is equivalent to a commission of 5 € 8 more.
Prefer to make a withdrawal at a bank counter!
THE COST OF CHANGE

It is usually better to remove your local currency into an ATM. Commissions that banks can take sometimes well below those of the currency exchange.
However if you do not have a choice, I recommend you change your money in banks rather than exchange offices and airports.

HIDE HIS CASH TO SEVERAL PLACES

Limit the number of withdrawal is equivalent to removing more and therefore end up with a lot of cash on you. That's why I urge you to avoid letting your whole liquidity in one place.

STORY

During a tour of Eastern Europe with friends I had in my wallet 800 euros in cash that fit my budget for the entire trip. Foolishly, in a way, my wallet fell out of my pack (do not try to understand, even I still do not understand today).
I'm looking at things positively, on the spot I wanted to hang myself.
Luckily my friends were able to advance me money so I can finish my journey normally, but I had to sell my laptop on my return for refund.

So a tip, always be sure to spread your cash in your luggage; Socks, toiletry etc ...
In conclusion, I would recommend to consider the issue of bank charges before leaving for a trip around the world or move to a country. These "small" fee, when properly managed, can allow you to travel longer.
These tips can of course apply for a shorter trip.

MY CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT FOR A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD

Walking alone, backpacking is to surrender completely to the dangers and men. There is no possibility of leakage and cycling, or shelter as with a car.
Bernard Ollivier
I decided to leave a few months around the world. Wander. From city to city, from country to country, from continent to continent. I have not really planned return date nor my itinerary.
So I had to review the contents of my old backpack to be ready for any situation, the unexpected that I love.

MATERIALS FOR A JOURNEY OF SEVERAL MONTHS
Personally I like to travel with a light backpack and as compact as possible. So each garment or material is important: I minimize my equipment to maximize its usefulness.
The goal is to have a light bag while being prepared for any situation.
There are many opinions and options, but the most important thing is to find what works best for you and your trip.

GOOD BAG BACKPACK
I always traveled with a backpack of 40 to 45 liters, I think this is the perfect size, it's sure not to take excess.
But since the inception of this blog I travel with hardware rather cumbersome, plus I expect to travel for an indefinite period, so I had to invest in a new backpack.
Material for a travel bag DOSCE I wanted above all it was a nice bag back to carry, lightweight, waterproof and especially with the vents on the back.
After much research I chose the Deuter Air Contact Pro 60 Liters which is expandable to 15 liters (75 liters).
